Retro Reclaimed

All Retro Reclaimed furniture is created from recycled boat wood from along the northern coast of Java, Indonesia, because of our attentive concern about boat wrecks that litter the coastline and go to waste. Through years of engagement with coastal communities, locals have learnt to put a value on the wood, and the benefit to local communities and the environment. The boats have served coastal communities well for 40-50 years. The wood is worn and dirty and smeared in thick layers of old paint. But miraculously, this is where the beauty of our products begins. By sanding the surfaces, the wood is given new life, and paint turns into colourful marbled patterns and mosaics. The different colour schemes tell us where the boats come from. When at sea, even sailors have desire to signal where home is, and each area uses their respective district colours. Because of all this each piece is completely unique and a one off!
